Week 2: Vibrations; Sensations - Part 2

Art has an incredible capacity to communicate emotion and senses across time and space. The original paintings that became the focus of my work, as selected by my own feelings and emotions, evoke strong feelings of satisfaction with the impressive attention to detail, and understanding of proportion and accuracy. However, my intentions with my work were to challenge those traditional ideas about art and play with proportion, scale and simplicity to yield an equally satisfying piece of art, without those "traditional" aspects of skill, such as photorealism. These are my first sketches, playing with ideas...

And then these are my refined responses. The first and second are contemporary challenges to an engrained and stereotypical understanding of "impressive" art, using an abstract ink style. The third is experimenting with another way of capturing the world, through a simplified and clearer use of hatching to reflect light, while still maintaining a feeling of realism.

All 3 represent an understanding of the way that art has changed and shaped modern art through its subtle vibrations across time, while still allowing artists to challenge the artistic "status quo" and think in a more abstract and contemporary fashion.
